The Witch of Camp Gingerbread (chapter 3)

(Go to chapter 1)

I opened the door and jumped back as a bunch of rats scurried out of the cabin in all directions. I looked inside. My mind was going wild with crazy thoughts of me going into the cabin and never returning. But I was curious to see what was in there. I leaned my head farther in.

"Jane!" yelled Robin.

"What!"

"Um, uh... Wait for me!"

"Are you sure? I could just meet you back at the cabin! I won't be very long!"

"No, I want to stay with you!"

"Alright then." We both went into the cabin. Robin stayed close to me. All of a sudden I heard a soft thumping noise coming from above my head. "Did  you hear that?" I asked.

"What?" whispered Robin.

"That thumping! It came from upstairs!"

"Shhhhh! Be quiet!"

"Robin! Come on, stop being so scared!"

"I'm not scared!"

"Then how about we split up!"

"Fine." I went up the steps. I held onto the railing to make sure I didn't fall. When I got to the top I was suprised to see how clean it was! It looked like someone had just cleaned it yesterday. There was a perfectly made bed in a corner and a bedside table with an ancient looking lamp, a Grimm's Fairy Tales book, and a glass of water! I noticed that the Grimm's Fairy Tales had been bookmarked. I opened the book and saw the story Hansel and Gretel. I had never read the story so I began to read. Before I could turn the page I saw something out of the corner of my eye. "Who's there!" I turned to see a man in tattered outgrown kid clothes! "Who are you?"

"My name is Daniel. I've been watching you through this window." He pointed to a small diamond-shaped window with vines of ivy growing around it.

I didn't know what to say. "Um..." Then I remembered. "Wait a minute, you're that boy from Robin's story! Wait! But that means..."

"I'm not a ghost! I could hear you, you know! I had the window open so I could hear your conversation. Your friend Robin is very loud."

"Yeah, she is pretty loud." I laughed.

"Jane! Who are you talking to up there?" called Robin from downstairs.

"Jane, don't tell her I'm up here."

"Why?"

"I'll tell you later."

"Okay, fine." I turned to the stairs and called out, "Nobody, Robin!"

"Wait, I'm coming up!" Then Robin screamed.

The Witch of Camp Gingerbread (chapter 2)

(Go to chapter 1)

"Here we are," John said to us as we reached our cabins. "All righty, then. I think that's everyone." He took the whistle from around his neck and blew it. About thirty kids ran out of the cabins. "I have an announcement to make! I would like you to meet Jack and Jane."

"Hello, Jack and Jane," all the kids said.

"All righty, then. Jack, you will be on team Hansel," John said, as a bunch of boys cheered and whistled. "And Jane, you will be on team Gretel." Some girls clapped. "Go to your cabins, everyone."

My cabin mates and I went inside. I felt like I had a giant knot in my stomach. I could feel all the girls were staring at me so I turned to face them and said, "So... what are your names?" All the girls turned away and walked into the other room, except for one. She had red hair and brown eyes and wore a white tee shirt with a long pink skirt. She stood there watching me for awhile then finally said, "My name is Robin."

"Oh, uh, nice to meet you... Robin."

She smiled. "Do you want to go water skiing with me?"

I looked down at Robin's skirt and looked back up at her.

"What?"

I shrugged. "I would love to," I said. So my new friend and I walked over to the lake, where there was another counselor standing next to a motorboat.

"Hello, my name is Liliana. Ready to water ski?" she asked.

I looked at her for a moment. She had the same shirt as John, but had a matching visor. She had long blonde hair pulled into a pony tail and had beautiful crystal blue eyes. Robin and I nodded.

"As John says, 'All righty, then!' Here let me help you put these skis on."

When we were all set up Liliana started the boat. I kept a hard grip on the handle as she sped around the lake. Robin watched me from the boat, smiling as my hair was whipped back in the wind. After about thirty minutes she drove us back onto the shore. I took off my gear and we left. I was a little confused and I asked Robin, "Why didn't you go skiing?"

"Um, I don't really like getting my hair wet. I thought it was really fun just sitting in the boat."

"Well, okay, if you don't want to. But I gotta say, it was really fun!" A bell rang in the distance. "I think it's dinnertime."

"Come on! I'll show you where dinner is."

When we got to the dining hall we stopped in front of it because we saw Jack. He was standing in the middle of a group of boys. Then he looked up, smiled and waved at me. But before he could walk up to me, a boy from the group gestured for him to go inside.

"Was that your brother?" Robin asked.

"Yeah, but come on. Let's eat. I'm starving."

As we walked in John was standing right by the door."Hey there you are, Jane! Oh, hi Robin! You're here, too. Just the two girls I needed. Well, what I wanted to tell you is that there is a new vegan buffet just for you two."

I looked over at Robin in surprise. "You're vegan, too?"

"Yeah, it's not that big of a deal."

John tapped us on the shoulders and pointed to a large table filled with food. There was a small sign over it that said VEGAN. Robin and I walked over and stared at the feast. There was pesto ravioli without cheese, spring rolls, fried zucchini, mini veggie burgers and chow mein. We had a choice of apple cider, ginger ale, cranberry juice, soy milk or water. When we finished piling our plates with food we moved over to the table set up for us in the corner.

Fifteen minutes later we finished gobbling our dinner. Robin got up and said, "I'm full. Let's go back to our cabin." I followed her outside. On the way we passed by a very large suspicious clump of plants. I looked closer and saw a door. Robin was staring at it too. "What the heck is that?" I asked her.

"I remember now. This used to be an old cabin. I heard that this very one is haunted!"

"By who?"

"By a boy who was at this camp many years ago. I think he went mad or something. I heard this rumor that he stopped trusting the counselors and everything. He totally, like, blocked himself off from the whole world. And he told his friends they were gonna die."

"And did they?"

"Well everyone has to die sooner or later, don't they?"

"No, I mean, like, right after he said they were."

"Well, actually I don't know the rest of the story."

"Let's go check it out!"

"Jane, I don't know. It doesn't look safe."

"Fine. I guess I'll just go by myself." I walked up what looked like the rest of the path to the front door.

The Witch of Camp Gingerbread (chapter 1)

Note: If you are reading this and you know anyone who makes movies tell them to make a Hansel and Gretel horror movie that's PG. It would be really awesome!

If you heard the Hansel and Gretel story before you will know it's not as twisted as this one! It all started on the way to my Summer camp.

"Mom, do we have to go?" my brother asked.
"Don't worry, Jack, you'll be fine," mom said. "I bet you'll make plenty of friends."
"Mom, how long do we have to stay at the camp," I asked.
"Jane, I told you you're staying at the camp for two weeks," she replied, annoyed.

"Here we are," Dad announced. "Camp Gingerbread!"

So we all got out of the car. Our parents signed us in, said goodbye and left. A tall blond haired man walked up to us. He had giant green eyes and wore a shirt with the Camp Gingerbread logo, a little gingerbread house with kids eating it like mad. It was very strange. And it was right in my face. Awkward.

"Hello. You must be Jack and Jane. I'm John, your camp counselor. You don't have to be nervous. You'll make plenty of friends in no time with all the activities we have planned. There's water skiing, hang gliding, hot dog eating contests, pie eating contests, doughnut eating contests, child eating con- I mean, gingerbread house eating contests, swimming lessons, movie nights and we also have lots of group projects that we will be working on."

I gave him a suspicious look.

"Wow, that sounds like a lot of fun!" Jack said.

"Um, I'm on a vegan diet," I said.

"Oh, you won't have to worry about nuttin', sugar plum."

I still didn't trust this guy.

"Come on, why don't we go find your cabin." John skipped away down the path.

Jack shrugged to me and started skipping along after him. I just glared at both of them and followed slowly.

Monkeys (a poem)

I wrote this in second grade and I wanted to share it with you because it's very cute and creative, especially for that age.

Monkeys

Look all over up and down.
You don't really need a frown.
Hey! Look! Can it be?
I guess we found a monkey!
It pounces and bounces.
It's not fat and round.
It doesn't usually touch the ground.
It's looking for dinner.
Might be a winner.
I like monkeys all around!
