The Witch of Camp Gingerbread (chapter 5)

All the girls were laughing at me. I really hated Alex right then, but I didn't want to show it, so I laughed along with them. I got some pretty surprised expressions, especially Alex. Her smirk had turned into an annoyed expression, and I knew I had done the right thing. "Well that was fun and all, but it's probably time we go inside!" I pretended to smile and squeezed past all the girls still standing there glaring at me. I needed to clean myself up.

I went into the first bedroom on my way to the bathroom. It looked like a tornado had hit, or maybe it was just one of those crazy girl parties that got a little too playful. There was nail polish on the floor, pillow feathers covering the beds, and pizza stuck on the walls and ceiling. I went to the bathroom, wondering where Robin was. I looked into the mirror to see most of the tomato on my face was gone. I washed the rest off very slowly just to pass some time. I left the bathroom still wondering where Robin could be. I went into the room we shared but she wasn't there. But when I went out the back door of the cabin, I almost tripped over her sitting on the step.

"Robin! I was so worried about you!"

"Hello, Jane."

"Robin, where have you been?"

"What a nice day it was today!" Robin turned to face me. She had a creepy stare and I didn't like it.

"You were almost baked in an oven by some hooded thingy and got made fun of by a group of girls! You call that a nice day?!" She kept staring her creepy stare. "Are you mad at me for something I did?"

"Why would I get mad at my best friend Jane?" She made a grab for my leg but I stepped back.

"I'll be inside, Robin." I went back into the cabin and closed the door behind me. Robin was acting weird, though I didn't know why. What if something had happened to her, like she hit her head and now she's gonna be creepy crazy forever! The thought of that scared me. She was my only friend. I couldn't lose her. I wondered if Daniel saw what had happened! I got anxious and ran through the cabin and out onto the front porch. It was dark out. I couldn't get to Daniel's cabin without a flashlight and what if that hooded thing came back? I decided I would wait and pass by his cabin in the morning. I need to talk to Daniel about Robin.

To be continued...
